From Bruce’s postbag, It’s clear that traffic congestion is one of the most important issues for residents. It has become so serious, that to resolve it requires substantial Government funding. The Motorway runs straight through Bruce’s County Division yet we have no local say on improvements, not even suggestions!
The M27 is congested every weekday morning through the winter and most evenings as well. The obvious solution is to widen it. Highways England, a Government QUANGO is proposing not to widen it, but to increase capacity by opening up the hard shoulder, using so called Smart motorway technology. Hard shoulders were established in the 1960s for our safety in case of breakdown. Bruce says, “I for one would not like to break down on a motorway without a hard shoulder as it would simply be too dangerous”.
