What is Community Safety?
Community Safety is all about a partnership with the police to prevent or reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. In the New Forest Area the anti-social behaviour aspect is taken on by Accredited Community Safety Officers or ACSOs. These ACSOs report directly to Town & Parish councils. Elsewhere in the country the role is performed by Police Community Support Officers or PCSOs. The PCSO responsibility is closer to the police in that although they are part funded by Town & Parish councils, the PCSOs report directly to the police and will receive their work duties from the 101 non-crime-in-progress calls made by the public.
