Introduction
The annual Eastleigh Mela is an example of a community service that is not so much about helping the vulnerable, but more about bringing everyone in society together. True it has origins in the Asian culture, but this culture is very closely intertwined with our own now. So much so that curry is probably more popular than fish and chips.
Eastleigh Asian Welfare and Cultural Association
The Eastleigh Asian Welfare and Cultural Association are the body that underpins the Eastleigh Mela. They have achieved a great community service by making the annual event the second largest in Eastleigh, after the switching on of the Christmas lights ceremony. I have sponsored this event for two of the last three years and expect to be able to do so again this year, 2016.
