Totton & Hythe Waterside Railway Plan


Vital Infrastructure being overlooked!

Without the support of Tory led Hampshire County Council this much needed railway line will have great difficulty getting re-established. A recent report suggests that opening the line to a passenger service represented poor value for money. Learn more… However the president has been set with the Ebbw Vale line, which was swamped by passengers once opened and closer to home it was a similar story with the Chandlers Ford Railway Station.

A Department for Transport study highlighted that a high percentage of new stations surveyed, handled more traffic than was estimated at the planning stage. The 2009 ATOC report values re-opening the railway to Hythe at £3m and suggested that it would return £4.80 to the local economy on every pound spent (Alternatively for an investment of £6m it could still be possible to get more than £2 back into the local economy for every pound spent on opening the line)
